gamescom congress 2020

Great interest in the first digital gamescom congress

This year, the gamescom congress also took place exclusively digitally for the first time. In 38 programme items with a total duration of 34 hours on Friday, 28 August 2020, more than 60 speakers highlighted the innovative power of games and showed that there is much more to games than just entertainment. This year, the focus was on the topic of "digital learning" and how games can enrich everyday school life. The various lectures and discussion panels were already accessed more than 10,000 times on the day of the congress. The most prominent speaker was Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. In an interview he spoke on the topic "Games are diversity and democracy".

The highlight of the evening was this year's Debatt(l)e Royale - the political arena at gamescom - with top federal politicians. Over 80,000 users followed the debate with Paul Ziemiak (CDU), Lars Klingbeil (SPD), Linda Teuteberg (FDP), Jörg Schindler (Die Linke) and Michael Kellner (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) live on the net. The Debatt(l)e Royale was hosted by YouTube star Peter Smits (PietSmiet) and e-sports presenter Phylicia Whitney (Flitzi).

Some talks and panels of the gamescom congress 2020 can still be accessed on demand on YouTube (mygamescomcongress).
