Greetings NRW 2021

At the beginning of its legislative period, the state government agreed to significantly expand the Digital Media State NRW, especially North Rhine-Westphalia as a site for games. Every year, the gamescom congress plays a significant role in helping us successfully realize this goal. This is because we highlight and discuss the rich diversity and potential that the wide range of games offer.

In 2021, everyone knows that games are no longer “simply” a part of youth culture. They are an important future field for many digital applications, ranging from the automotive industry, education and training to the healthcare sector – the possibilities and offerings are enormous. It is important to recognize and harness them. What comes easily to “digital natives”, others have to learn it first. And so, for the thirteenth year in a row, the gamescom congress will play a fundamental role in strengthening media understanding and competence in our country. A task that has become more crucial than ever, especially because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
